A Welcome To ZOE – (Our ZerO Emissions Fleet Car)

During 2019, as part of our eco-active responsibilities, we bought an electric pool car for our engineers to use for site visits.  We are delighted to welcome Zoe to the RGA family as she provides our ‘pool’ transport whilst adding to our policy of being eco-friendly.

New Chairman of JFCE

Congratulations to our Director, Rob Stewart who, at the recent AGM, was elected to the position of Chairman of the Jersey Federation of Consulting Engineers. The JFCE, of which Stephen Ross-Gower was a founding member, plays a key role in promoting both the interests and expertise of the Island’s Consulting Engineering practices.

Rob very much looks forward to taking a lead role in the continued value that the Federation adds to the local construction industry.

Natwest Gibraltar Island Games 2019

The 2019 Island Games were held in Gibraltar between 6th and 12 July and RGA were proud to sponsor their staff member, Miguel, who played basketball for Team Jersey.  Overall Jersey finished in top spot and the basketball team finished a very creditable  joint 7th after some tough games, including a quarter final against the hosts.

RGA Summer Weekend Staycation

RGA Directors and Staff enjoyed a wonderful weekend glamping and having a generally good time at Beauvelande Campsite in St Martin, Jersey. While the adults enjoyed socialising, eating and (moderately) drinking, the children enjoyed playing in the swimming pool, playing water games and having fun. Everybody agreed it was a wonderful weekend.

Petanque Competition 26 April 2019

At last Friday’s ‘light hearted, speed’ Petanque Competition at The Weighbridge, we entered a team of two (Katie and Jonathan, pictured below). Of the 16 teams in total we competed against four; sadly, although winning against three of them, we finished in 13th place. However, as they say: “It’s not the winning, it’s the taking part that counts” and we certainly enjoyed taking part. Many thanks to Headway for organising this ‘fun’ event, the proceeds of which went to Headway Jersey, The Brain Injury Charity.

Budding Engineers

Andrew Morvan, one of our Associate Directors, volunteered for a programme called Secondary Engineer. Schools compete to design and build a mechanical grabber arm using fluid power and Andrew has been partnered with Le Rocquier School. He will be supporting the students monthly ahead of the competition at the beginning of July.

Andrew is very enthusiastic about this project and said: “It’s great to be able to inspire young people to think about STEM subjects. The skills are transferable to every walk of life and I have been really encouraged by the motivation and eagerness of the students to get involved with Secondary Engineer.”

The Brick Foundation

Construction Industry cooking up a storm in Centre Point’s new kitchen.


This is just one of the many projects carried out by THE BRICK FOUNDATION along with many local builders, tradesmen and local suppliers.

Jersey Construction Council’s charity, THE BRICK FOUNDATION, chose the Centre Point Trust’s La Pouquelaye headquarters as the recipient for their 2017 Construction Week project. The focus was on the building’s old and dilapidated kitchens, which were all in need of an urgent makeover.

An appeal went out to local businesses and first to respond were Normans, Pentagon and Romerils, who all donated a full kitchen each. Following on from this substantial gesture, JE’s Powerhouse donated all the electrical appliances and JEBS carried out the electrical and plumbing installations.  Andy Fleet, Bridgewater Project Management, who managed the

whole project, said: This has now become the norm for our industry in support of our charity, and when the call goes out, we receive an amazingly generous response.”

“We have delivered a project that would have cost Centre Point in excess of £25,000 without charge, due to the generosity of our members” said Steve Jewell, The Brick Foundation Chairman. Steve went on to say “there was a large number of businesses who not only turned up and did the work, but also did this free of charge”*.

After

Centre Point’s Trust’s Chief Executive Officer, Jane Moy said “At the Play Care Centre the focus is on fun, fun and more fun! Whether your child is 4 years old or 14 years old, there is always a huge range of exciting on-site and off-site activities for them to take part in and our kitchens are at the centre of our operation. What Jersey’s construction Industry has done for us is amazing; it will make a real difference to the team here and most importantly, the children”.

A little help goes a long way…

RGA have been privileged to be able to help CPS Nepal by donating annually to this non-profit organisation.

The CPS Orphanage in Kathmandu, Nepal, looks after 24 children aged 6-19 by providing a loving home, healthcare and a good education; the children also learn the skills needed as they move into adulthood.
